(Random thoughts) Still running . . .

can't give it up! Yet. I have found that if I don't run or do some exercise first thing in the morning, I've very restless and can't get settled to do what I need to do.

Walking is so boring and lonely when you head out alone. And it takes forever, so it seems. But, on the other hand, it is a good time to work on scripture memory, which has disappeared from my life completely, now that my walking friend has moved far away to the frigid north.

After the (miserable) Tulsa Run, my plan was to decrease my running and increase other kinds of exercise. Less emphasis on running and more on stretching and strength. So, for about 2 weeks, I ran 3X/week and exercised 2X/week, taking off Saturday and Sunday. Wow. What a change that was. But I no longer felt like a runner--bleah!

Thus, this week I decided to increase my running to 4X/week and just use a exercise video 1X/week. I like this better. So far. Still need to look for a good exercise DVD as I am continuing to work out with "Stormie", and don't find her challenging enough. I'll probably ask for The Shred for Christmas. (I do hate taking time to learn a new exercise routine.) I would like to add light weights and pushups to what I'm doing, but haven't worked that in yet. Maybe I'll make a chart and give myself bright shiny stars each time I do pushups! :-)

I won't be posting much over the next months, as I'm not training for any upcoming events, but I'll check your blogs from time to time.

Keep running the race set before you!

Blessings on all~

  1. Hi Mary Ann! I was just thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. Glad to hear you are still running and doing well.

I will miss your posts, but will look forward to hearing more when you return. :)

  2. I started doing the Shred this week. I like it alright. She does do push ups and weights so that would be good. However, I don't know how effective it would be for just once a week! It's such a short work out. But maybe Levels 2 and 3 would be okay. I've only done Level 1 so far!

  3. Hey friend! I have the Shred if you want to try it before buying it. I would gladly loan it to you. I am doing Power 90 right now and my guys are doing P90X. Both are good. I wasn't read for P90X, so I am doing the easier one. Miss you! Have started running, if you can believe it. I have been at it since late September and it is kicking my butt. I have wanted to talk to you about it often, but.........I'm a chicken. Would love your encouragement.

  4. I know that the few times I have stopped running it has been very hard. For me running is an outlet for so many things that would otherwise buckle me...A couple of years ago my running partner moved away and it was really hard to be motivated to go out in the cold alone. But after a while, like you, I just missed it so much. I think the chart idea is great! I just did one recently to help me be more motivated. I also plan to paint and decorate the room my treadmill is in so when the weather really turns and I have to use the dreadmill it will be in a room that is nice to be in. So little things like that keep me moving through times when the motivation is lacking. Have you thought about looking for another race in the near future to get yourself over the hump of the Tulsa Run? Anyway, I'll miss your post. I hope you have a blessed holiday season!

  5. (In regards to your comment on my blog)There is a shortage of canned pumpkin??? Oh, no! I love that stuff even in oatmeal...I'll have to check out some stores here and see if I can find some.

I have missed out interaction on our blogs...I know the days are busy and we have a lot of much more important priorities to deal with, but I have grown to adore you and just miss hearing about your life and running! Isn't it funny how blogs can create friendships? I have found this to be true quite a few times. Some of my most like minded godly friends are ones I have met through blogging. It has been a true blessing. I think it is neat how God can bring friendships into place in such a creative way--even though we went to church together for years and didn't really know eachother very well then. Now, I look to you as a godly mentor and example...a friend!

About the shred. I do like it. In fact I have been doing it quite a bit lately and can see a difference in muscle tone. I do feel stronger with doing more push ups and just adding some strength exercises. I don't like that she does use a few choice words here and there. That would be my only negative about it. I have done levels 1 and 2...2 is tough, but 1 is a good solid workout that I know you could do, esp the cardio...since you are a runner. The hardest part for me is the strength exercises, because I am a weakling--but I am trying to work on that! : )

Enjoy this season of celebrating our Redeemer and Friend. God in the flesh--with us---such an amazing gift to us. I hope your sweet family have a wonderful Christmas!
