Hmmmm. Last week's Meatless Monday (14th) was aboard a cruise ship, so I obviously didn't cook. The week before (7th) I did cook, but I've forgotten what is was . . . maybe Tamale Pie with homemade polenta? It was tasty, with potential;
I'll probably alter the recipe slightly and make it again in a few weeks.
This Monday, the 21st, I was out of town and not cooking. And the next Monday, DH will be out of town, so there's no telling what I'll end up making.
A few days ago, I finished book number 3 of 12. Seabiscuit, by Lauren Hillenbrand, was published in 2001. It was another great read, even though I know very little about horses and even less about horse-racing, I found it fascinating.
Hillenbrand is an amazing researcher and a great story teller. The setting of this true story is the 1930s,from New York to California to Florida, when horse-racing was big. I mean, everyone was following the horses and had a favorite one to cheer for and bet on. Even the big movie stars of the day, like Bing Crosby and Clark Gable owned horses and/or attended the races.
The lives of the young men who rode the horses-the jockeys-was strenuous, sacrificial, and dangerous. They loved their animals and the thrill of the race, but they paid dearly with their health, and lived like paupers.
Enough said. I recommend this book! Let me know if you want to borrow it.
