Last Saturday I was in Seattle; I wasn't sleepless, but it was sunless and definitely raining a week ago. I needed to do a long run, but running in the dark, in a strange city, in the rain, was not what I had in mind! However, I was very thankful that: 1. It wasn't cold, 2. I didn't get terribly lost and 3. When I had a bad, really bad stumble, I didn't actually fall. :-) It was raining about 5 of the 7 miles I ran. Running in the rain builds character, don't you think?
Next Saturday is the Tulsa Run! I received my race-day packet about a week ago and I'm really excited. I know so much more about running than I did the first time I did this race, 6 years ago.
Today I ran down at the river-blue skies and mid 40s. I was a little warm with my long sleeve T and running pants, but had a good run-about 7.5 miles. Following the example of my young (16 y/o) running friend, Sarah G., who is training for the Houston marathon, I ran up and over (twice) the Big "D" bridge. It's a mile long and has a challenging incline. It was hard, but good training, and I'm glad I pushed myself to do it.
Now it's time for tea and the Word. (You knew I was going to say that, didn't you? :-)

Oh I am so glad you didn't actually fall. But a stumble can be very scary! Funny thing, I had a really big fall about a week out from the Tulsa run quite a few years ago. Tore my favorite running pants=( It sounds like you are ready for your run next weekend. The weather here is supposed to be good. It is really looking pretty in Tulsa with the trees changing colors. Hoping and praying for you to have good weather and a great run!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terri. I'm excited about the T. Run--looks like it may be warm enough for shorts--the race doesn't start until 9 AM, so it will be warmer then. I think it started at 8 AM the first time I ran it. (I tore my favorite running pants a few years ago when I had a nasty fall off a rickety ladder . . . got rid of the ladder after that!)
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to cut back on my running after the Tulsa Run. 3 days/week of running and 2 days of an exercise DVD. I think my body needs a rest from running and some overall stretching and strengthening. I look forward to a change of pace.
I hope you have a wonderful race, Mary Ann. I am impressed about the one mile hill bridge! That sounds like a great workout. I love Sarah G and miss her! I'm so glad she is training for a marathon...she will do great! Is her dad or Jenna H running with her?
ReplyDeleteI will be praying for you as you prepare this week for the race. Enjoy your time in Tulsa with family, too.
Godspeed in the race!!
