Last night we cooked out-bacon wrapped filets, roasted corn, grill-top mushrooms--yum, (prepared by Jimmy), and fresh fruit salad. Dessert was a raspberry buttermilk cake-delicious-made by David.
Corn and I are not friends, but it was oh, so tasty--smoky and sweet, tender and crisp. I only ate half an ear, but I paid the price. Had a stomache ache all night long and a restless sleep. Overslept and woke up shaky and groggy. Not a good start for race day.
DH drove us to the race site-how kind of him. He's not a morning person, but there wasn't one heavy sigh or word of complaint. He's the best.
The four of us-me, John, David, and Tim started out together, but the boys quickly left me in the dust. They did so well-beat me by 2-3 minutes.
Starting out ambitiously, I ran pretty well the first 2 miles, but then the course shifted to uphill and I had to slow down. One of my goals was to run the whole race-no walking-and I was able to do that, thankfully.
My other goal was to finish in under 30 minutes and I met that too! :-) My time was 28.29. Which is pretty good for me.
At the finish line, Bob Boyd and his band were playing patriotic music-that was fun. We stopped by Chik-Fil-A on the way home, but they were closed to celebrate Independence Day. Instead, I got a scone at Starbucks and the boys got bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits (not exactly heart-healthy, I know . . . ) at Hardees.
A fun morning-a memory maker.
Going to the lake after church tomorrow-don't know if I'll be running or posting next week.
Thankful for the freedom we have to worship our Lord and Saviour!
