Running on empty

I had hoped to run 5-6 miles this morning, but that was not to be. A few probable causes: didn't eat enough yesterday, didn't sleep well last night, the heat, and for some reason my lungs didn't feel good.

Feeling like I was going to throw up, I stopped running at 4.5 miles and walked the rest of the way. What I learned today is that I need to bring along Gu (or some such thing) when I'm running a longer distance. I probably should have had a water bottle too.

Today was a day when some of my thoughts were: "Who do you think you are? You are not a runner. You might as well give up. You'll never make it in this heat."

Well, I'm not going to let those thoughts stick with me. I plan to get out again on Monday-running earlier may help-and try again. I can be pretty stubborn . . .

Looking forward to corporate worship tomorrow~

  1. Mary Ann, I'm sorry your run did not go better. I know when I'm sick to my to my stomach its usually a sign I need more fluids. Sounds like you figured that out. I agree Monday is a new day so put this run and those thoughts behind you and press on dear sister. Remember you still did over 4 miles under those conditions. I'd say that makes you a runner indeed!

  2. Mary Ann,

Sometimes I feel nauseated right after running...not a good feeling. I'm sorry you experienced that today. But, Monday is a new day and with the early morning nice temperatures, I hope it will be much more enjoyable for you! I appreciate your attitude of not allowing negative thoughts to stop you! I agree with Terri...running over 4 miles in this heat shows that you are in very good athletic condition! You ARE a runner!!!

WE all have bad days and I am thankful that God allows our bodies to bounce back and be able to run!

  4. The heat makes such a difference in how I feel too. We all have days that we just don't feel great and our plan doesn't go as we expected. I hope Monday is a better day for you.
